Highlights of the Pantanal

Howler Monkey Trail

Trekking is an absolute must for anyone visiting the Pantanal and Howler Monkey Trail is one of the best. The route leads to the Howler Monkey Tower, the highest observation point. Standing at 25 m high, it offers glorious panoramic views over the plains. Visit the viewing tower at dusk to catch sunsets like you’ve never seen before.

Rondon Trail

Tackling the Rondon Trail is another highlight of exploring the Pantanal. The path leads to the 13m high Jabiru Stork Tower. As you might have guessed, a Jabiru Stork nest is visible from the tower. The remarkable bird species is renowned for being the largest flying bird in the Americas, growing 4 to 5 feet tall and boasting wingspans of up to 12 feet. A truly remarkable sight, there is nothing quite like seeing the huge white bodies of these black-beaked birds in person, while surrounded by the glorious marshes of the Pantanal.

The Clarinho River

The range of fascinating species in the Pantanal are certainly not confined to the land. Jump on a canoe to explore the wetland’s water creatures. Clarinho River is a particularly marvellous place for paddling. The area is home to one of the Pantanal’s most popular residents, the “ariranhas”, also known as giant otters. It is a wonderful experience to see these social creatures entertaining each other, with parents often seen teaching their young important life skills such as fishing and swimming.

Travel Guide

When planning a Pantanal vacation, you will be wondering which is the best way to get there. Considering the wetland spills over Brazil, Bolivia and Paraguay, there are several options. However, the easiest way to get to this spectacular wetland is by catching a flight from Brazil, where the majority of the wetlands lie. The most convenient airports to the Pantanal are Cuiaba, Corumbá or Campo Grande.
